Hi Everyone

To date we've managed to get 1923 objections to the Hovercraft proposal for Big Bay. Well done!

Peter P, Mike and I have agreed we are now going to ask council to request that the resolution be withdrawn as nothing has transpired since the resolution was passed in Jan 2006.

The objections that everyone has submitted make up the backbone of this request.

So I would like to ask that we have a final wave of enthusiasm and emailing to ask those who have not posted an objection to consider doing so.

Cheers,

Mark

Thanks for the recent burst of objections!

We're now up to over 2200 people who object to trashing Big Bay with a hovercraft.

They might be hearing us!

Hi, to whom this may concern
I have just been on the wind guru site, and came upon the link, informing the public of a proposal to use big bay as a hovercraft launch site.My reaction to this as follows

Big bay is one of the most famous, beautiful, water sports venues in the world. International competitions in surfing, kite surfing and windsurfing have been held here for many years. For the sake of a few individuals who will make a lot of money, are we going to throw away such a beautiful, deface a most wonderful pristine place, for millions of people to enjoy.I would like to be bold enough to say that the people involved in this project, do probably never walk on the beach, and do not enjoy being out in the sun, and have absolutely no consideration for those that do.

The site is in any case not good for hovercrafts. The prevailing south easters in summer, the huge winter swell, would render the, bay useless for a large part of the year. The use of a hovercraft from big bay, the way I see it would be to take people from table view area to town. We do have roads and public transport for this . The roads have been, and still are being widened for the 2010 world cup. The infrastructure will be sufficient enough to cope with the traffic.

Long term for the hovercraft would not be good , as the cost to use it would be more than most could afford. When the project eventually runs out of money, and goes bankrupt, we will be left with an ugly disused terminal building that will go into complete disarray. We will be left with a world heritage site, that will be defaced forever, and for what?It will be too late by then to reverse the damage done.Law suite , this that and the rest will follow for years to come, but you know and I know, those who will be responsible, will just throw their hands up and plead poverty, nothing will be concluded. The only conclusion, an irreversible trashing of a beautiful venue.

Please do not let this project go ahead, we don't need hovercrafts in Cape Town, and we don't need a beautiful venue destroyed for the sake of a few ambitious people wanting to make what I would regard as a financial
