Bronkhorstspruit Dam
this article needs reworking, taken from www.windsurfingafrica.org

Bronkhorstspruit Dam (90 km from central Johannesburg, 75km from Pretoria)

Prevailing Wind Conditions

The wind is generally gusty with the best (cleanest) wind being an
easterly.
Winds from thunderstorms are unreliable and severe. The best time is
late winter / spring (Aug to Nov) when cold fronts bring good wind from the South West.
The worst direction on the whole dam is Northerly as this blows over a
ridge that stretches for most of the resort. This provides for gusty, but often, planing conditions.

Resort Facilities

There are several resorts around the dam which offer lovely rigging and
camping facilities. The ones on the southern side generally offer more
primitive ablutions etc.

Bronkhorstbaai is the most popular resort with the sun worshippers and
boaters as it has swimming pools, lush grass and cafeteria facilities,
and as such they charge accordingly.

Most of the resorts will cost you +-R8/windsurfer. Sometimes the guys at
the gate will estimate that your board is small enough not to qualify as
a boat, then it's free. They also charge R10 per car, R15 per boat, and
R10 per person. Some also charge for trailers.

On the N4 from Pretoria to Witbank take the second off-ramp which has a
brown bronkhorstspruit dam board clearly marking it.
Turn right over the freeway and carry on straight.

The second turn to the left goes past Bonamazi and other resorts to the
east of the dam as well as to the nature reserve on the south further on.
If you carry on straight instead of turning second left you will pass
the other resorts (Northern), turn offs on the left. The last resort is
the quietest still offering green rigging areas.

TCC (Transvall Catamran Club) allows non-members entrance at R40 per
windsurfer. Membership for board sailors is R600 per year. This is
where most windsurfers sailing at Bronkies gather. There's a core group
of about 10 sailors there - we need more. Good rigging area and
ablutions. Turn off to TCC is just after Bonamanzi and before nature
reserve turnoffs. SMS the letters "catc w" to 36969 for weather update
including current wind speed, minimum  & maximum speed over past 15
minutes, wind direction, relative humidity, temperature, rainfall.
